Decaffeinated coffee (MWP)
Perfero Caffè’s decaffeinated coffees are made from coffee beans decaffeinated using the Mountain Water Process (hereinafter: MWP). The MWP process originates from Mexico and is unique because it removes caffeine from coffee beans without the use of chemicals, relying solely on water and activated carbon filtration.
Why is MWP special?
- Chemical-free process: The Mountain Water Process does not use any chemicals, making it an environmentally friendly and natural solution.
- Activated carbon filtration: After soaking, the caffeine is removed using an activated carbon filter. This filter binds caffeine molecules while leaving the coffee’s other flavor components intact.
- During the MWP process, the water used for caffeine removal is part of a sustainable and controlled cycle designed to preserve coffee quality while minimizing waste. In summary, the water is not simply discarded but is continuously filtered and reused to ensure coffee quality and reduce environmental impact. This approach reflects the Mountain Water Process method’s commitment to sustainable and natural production.
Perfero Caffè recommends its MWP-decaffeinated coffees especially for those who:
- Are sensitive to caffeine
- Aim for a low caffeine intake while still enjoying the taste and aroma of coffee (e.g., pregnant or breastfeeding mothers)
- Are coffee lovers who want to enjoy coffee in the evening without caffeine disrupting their sleep.
For over 10 years, Perfero Caffè has been roasting its private-label decaffeinated coffees using coffee beans decaffeinated with the Mountain Water Process (MWP). These coffees are popular among our customers not only because of the chemical-free processing but also due to their rich and full flavor profile.
